What is ASBC® Accreditation and Why Does It Matter?
WHAT IS ASBC® ACCREDITATION?
Accredited Small Business Consultant® accreditation is a designation provided by the Association of Accredited Small Business Consultants (AASBC), the premier international body for providing training and certification to small business and SME consultants. The vision of the AASBC is to be the global leader and standard bearer in providing small business and SME consultants with the knowledge and necessary tools to assist clients in creating and operating long-term sustainable, profitable businesses.
In my professional career working with nonprofit organizations and small businesses, I found that many conversations about marketing goals eventually required a deeper conversation, and understanding, about organizational fundamentals like finances, operations, staffing, and technology, in order to ensure there was adequate support for achieving marketing objectives.
Sometimes (okay, many times), I offered unsolicited advice when I noticed incongruences between an organization’s goals and the resources they had available to support the effort to reach those goals.
In other words, if I wanted their marketing strategy to work, I needed my clients to see that there were obstacles to reaching their goals, and those obstacles needed to be removed.
How could I, as the marketing consultant, better help my clients (and others like them) build a more sustainable organizational framework that would help them meet more of their goals?
I decided that it was time to bridge the gap between my formal education (Masters in Business Administration) and the work I do on a day-to-day basis by stepping into a broader consulting role.
WHY DOES ASBC® ACCREDITATION MATTER?
As an Accredited Small Business Consultant® (ASBC®), I am equipped to help small businesses and nonprofits to examine what’s working and, more importantly, what’s NOT working, so they (YOU) can operate more effectively and reach their (YOUR) goals. See below for a photo of the press release announcing this achievement.
Note: nonprofit organizations are *technically* businesses that happen to be charitable (and have a few smaller differences from businesses). However, from a foundational perspective, most business concepts can still apply to these types of organizations!
As a newly minted ASBC®, my goal is to partner with my clients to do a deeper dive into their organizations, identify areas of improvement, and help them build strong foundations that will lead to success.
According to Dr. Richard L. Weinberger, CEO of the Association of Accredited Small Business Consultants:
“By hiring an ASBC®, small businesses and SMEs (small to medium-sized enterprises) are assured they are working with a professional who has the knowledge and expertise to help them improve operational efficiency and maximize profitability. By offering advice on all aspects of business operations, the ASBC® provides an extremely valuable service to small business and SME owners and managers striving for success.”
As a business consultant, I will come alongside you and your business (or nonprofit) and provide support that you can see and feel. You will recognize the tangible results without wondering what you paid for. Hiring a business consultant is not an expense line item; it’s a RETURN ON INVESTMENT.
